In fall 2013, I embarked on the journey of a lifetime. Along with 500 other college students from around the globe, we sailed around the Atlantic ocean for around four months and traveled to 16 countries on five continents. Throughout our time on the ship, we took classes that were held while at sea, and each course had a "field study" program in one country throughout the voyage.
During our 12 day crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, we held the "Atlantic Ocean Film Festival" and were challeged to create a film that both explained an aspect of living at sea, while also incorporating different aspects of the ship. Below is the winner of the 2013 Atlantic Ocean Film Festival.
In fall 2011, I started at Ithaca College to pursue a degree in cinema and photography, concentrating in cinema production. Throughout my four years I groomed my skills and learned different aspects of production, and specialized in production design. As one of the few production designers in my class, I was brought on by many of my classmates to design their films.
In the fall of my senior year, I started taking animation classes to take advantage of a medium I had not yet learned about, and had the opportunity to. We covered all mediums from hand-drawing, rotoscoping, stop-motion, claymation, and cut paper.
During my senior year, while production designing three films, I was also producing and directing my thesis film which was a six minute story utilizing multiple mediums of animation. It was while producing that film where I learned how to manage a production team, keep track of all logistical items for my production, as well as constantly meticulously animating.
Because of my experiences at IC, I was able to take all my skills and decide that it was at the heart of being a creative that I really enjoyed. I loved conceptualizing stories and ways to tell them, which is now my career.
After graduating college, I wanted to have one last summer before joining the New York City workforce, enter, Camp Nashoba North.
I started working at Nashoba in 2013 as a horseback riding counselor. Working with 5 other women to take care of a 20 horse barn, while teaching lessons to about a third of the camp, at all levels, really opened my eyes to how teamwork and communication will be a cornerstone of my career. These were skills I honed for the next few summers.
My last summer in 2015, I changed positions and became the camp photographer and social media manager. It was my responsibility to capture all camp activities and events, implement a digital storage system, organize all photos on an online archive, create monthly videos for the campers and staff, while updating all social media accounts throughout the summer.
My time at Nashoba taught me how to work under exhausting conditions, how to manage many different types of personalities simultaneously, and also to find the fun in the little things.
